Job Responsibilities: |
|
An AmeriCorps Member will be assigned to program tasks, activities, and duties within the main BBBS program functions based on individual experience, skills and abilities. The three main functions of BBBS program work include Customer Relations, Enrollment and Matching, and Match Support. An AmeriCorps Member at BBBS may support multiple related to mentor and volunteer recruitment, enrollment, training, support and recognition as well as agency development consistent with Big Brothers Big Sisters of America and Mentor Michigan Standards.
The Member will be responsible to assist BBBS in meeting various local and national annual growth goals. For example, local 2009 goals included: •Providing quality match support with 95% of support contacts completed on-time. • Matching at least 40 children in the Mentoring Children of Prisoners program • Matching 300 children in School-based programs • A special emphasis on recruiting Big Brothers, especially African-Americans and Hispanics. A Member may also assist in building program sustainability through fund and resource development assignments, including assistance in grant development.
Education/experience in education, social services, youth development or communications field desirable. Knowledge of computer programs such as word processing (WORD), PowerPoint, and the use of search engines also desirable. |

Job Qualifications: |
|
Minimum Bachelors degree in social services, human resources or related field preferred. Must have car, valid driver’s license, and meet state required automobile insurance minimums. |
|
Salary: |
|
Each Member will receive training related to mentoring programs, child development, volunteer management, building community collaborations, program development and management, communications skills, conflict resolution, resource development, civic engagement, evaluation and reporting, and portfolio development. Members will receive an annual stipend (paid biweekly) of $11,400 before taxes. Healthcare is provided and a childcare stipend is available. Upon successful completion of one year of service (and a minimum of 1700 hours of service) the Member will receive an educational award of $4725. |
